Rabbi Eliezer Raphoel Brody
American-born Rabbi Eliezer Raphoel Brody is a popular speaker and broadcaster both in Israel and in North America. A Ba'al Teshuva, Rabbi "Lazer" Brody served in the Israel Army's elite special forces, and is the veteran of two wars and tens of antiterrorist missions. As such, a New York journalist nicknamed him "Rabbi Rambo".
When the Israel-Lebanon conflict erupted in 1982, he was among the first to be mobilized. While fighting in the streets of Beirut, he developed a burning spiritual thirst. Soon after the war, he left his farm on the Samarian ridge to study Torah in Jerusalem.
Rabbi Avraham Weitzhandler, the author of Siach Sarfei Kodesh and head of Meshech Hanachal, was instrumental in introducing Brody to Rebbe Nachman's teachings. After receiving his ordination by four major rabbinical courts in 1992, Brody devoted another two years of intensive study of Breslever Chassidus at the Breslever Kollel in Mea Shaarim. Brody then spent four years as meshamesh, or understudy, of the Melitzer Rebbe of Ashdod.
