Nine renews ‘Doctor Doctor’ and develops dramas for 2021
The Nine Network has ordered a fifth season of Easy Tiger’s medical drama Doctor Doctor, a rare commission with much of the country in virtual lockdown.
Co-head of drama Andy Ryan says the broadcaster is developing a number of drama series for 2021 and 2022.
The renewal follows yesterday’s announcement by Nine Entertainmentthat it aims to cut costs by $266 million this calendar year as the pandemic flattens advertising revenues.
Nine said it expects to save $28 million in spending on broadcast content this year, primarily local drama and children’s programs, assuming a prolonged production shutdown.

Ella Scott Lynch opens up about starring in Informer 3838
Ella Scott Lynch has become a familiar face on Australian TV for her roles in Love Child and Home and Away but she describes her Informer 3838 character, Nicola Gobbo, who is based on a real person, as "an actor's dream".
"This was a really unique character for me," she told 9Entertainment in an exclusive video interview. "I've played lawyers before but never one quite like her. I've never played someone so complicated — she's sort of an enigma.
"I found her a very strong character. Both the directors [Geoff Bennett and Ben Lucas] and I were also always interested in trying to find her vulnerabilities, too, because I think a lot of the time we see this kind of strong tough lawyer person you can't see a crack in. So we were always trying to explore the vulnerabilities and the more frailties, which is important in conceiving a well-rounded character."
