Joseph Aziel Stevenson, beloved husband of Shirley Irene Sallenbach, passed away peacefully in Raymond on October 10, , at the age of A beacon of unwavering faith and devotion to God, family, and community, Joe’s life was a testament to the profound impact one person can have on the lives of many.
Joe was born on March 8, , in the upstairs north bedroom of his grandparents’ home in the small town of Raymond, Alberta, Canada. He was the third of seven children in the Aziel and Lulu Stevenson family. At the tender age of eight years old, he was involved in a tragic accident in which he lost his right hand. As heart-wrenching as it was not to do everything for him, his wise and loving mother taught him to be as independent as possible, allowing him to figure out on his own how to write and tie his shoes with his left hand. From there, he went on with determination to do all he could with his one hand and never let it stop him from doing anything he wanted to accomplish, from playing sports to farming to doing construction. He became quite the jack-of-all-trades. He was a great athlete and especially loved playing badminton, roller skating, and golf. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, grandad and great-grandad, Frank, on July 26, at the age of
He is survived by his four children; Bruce (Diane) Stevenson, Lee (Margo) Stevenson, Duane (LaDine) Stevenson, Bonnie (Ken) Sorensen, nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face.
Frank is also survived by his brother Robert (Jean) Stevenson, and his sisters Alice Hickson and Edna Linden. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Edna Stevenson, wife, Marie Stevenson (Hart) and second wife, Georgia Stevenson (DeBolt), brother Lloyd Stevenson and son Gordon.
Frank was born on July 8, in DeBolt, Alberta, making him the first child born to a pioneer in that area. He lived and worked on the family homestead for nearly 81 years, before moving to Campbell River in with his wife Georgia. After her passing in March of , Frank returned to the Peace Country and resided at Wild Rose Manor until April of this year. Frank’s health took a turn early this spring and he was in excellent care with the staff at the QEII Hospital for the past few months. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Prairie Lake Hospice.
